Berstan Homes

Mark and Paul Bryson have a combined experience of 50 years in construction. They started Berstan Homes because they believed there was a shortage of homes at affordable prices in the North Eastern region of Melbourne.   Now they build quality homes all over Melbourne in suburbs such as Doncaster, Box Hill, Bulleen, Vermont, Nunawading, Blackurn, Donvale, Ivanhoe, Bentleigh and Mc Kinnon.   Or if you do not own your own land Berstan can arrange affordable land for you in plenty of great locations such as, Doreen, Wallan, Mernda, Craigieburn, Wollert, Epping and many more.   THE HISTORY OF BERSTAN Stan Bryson arrived in Australia in 1948 from Yorkshire, England where he had qualified as a builder. For the next two years he commenced work as a carpenter in Canberra, building government housing. As Stan's interest to further his career in the building industry increased, he took a position as a supervisor in the construction of commercial and domestic buildings at the Woomera Rocket Range in South Australia.   At the completion of contracts at Woomera, Stan moved to the Maralinga Atomic Test site in South Australia. There he worked as a site foreman overseeing concrete and steel fabrication of launching towers for their use in atomic testing. In the late 1950's with the completion of works at Maralinga, Stan moved to Adelaide and commenced building houses. Such was the success of these houses, that one was featured in the Home and Gardens magazine.   In 1960, Stan met his future wife Beryl, and moved to Melbourne. In Melbourne he worked as a foreman completing commercial projects for approximately a decade. Then, in 1971 the conception of his company was achieved. The name of the company came about through the combination of both Beryl and Stan's first names: Berstan.   Berstan's main focus of business was within the commercial sector, although approximately 10% of business was achieved via residential works. Gradually over the next decade Berstan grew as a company, and were known for being able to deliver quality works on time and within budget.   In 1979, Stan's oldest son Mark joined the company as an apprentice, and continued with the company upon successful completion of this apprenticeship. In 1989, Stan's second son Paul commenced an apprenticeship and he too continued within the family company after successful completion of his apprenticeship.   In 1995, Mark became a Registered Building Practitioner and took over the family company. Stan retired from the company in 1998, although holds great interest in the continuing growth and success of the company. Paul is also a Register Building Practitioner. Currently, Mark and Paul are both Directors of Berstan, with Mark heading up the estimating team, and Paul in charge of construction management.   With over a century of experience within the building industry we have a solid background and knowledge base to continue to deliver quality projects, which come in on budget and within a given time frame. Our future is looking bright with three young sons to Mark and Paul to continue Stan's legacy.
