What Do Independent Building Inspectors Do for New Builds?

When it comes to newly built homes, your builder must enlist the services of a building inspector to confirm structural integrity and adherence with all relevant building codes and standards. However, for your own peace of mind, you may also wish to hire an independent building inspector—particularly if you feel unsure about the competence of your builder, or even the building inspector.

For any new build, mandatory inspections are usually listed on your building permit. This usually includes inspections of: footings, the slab, framing, waterproofing, and then a final inspection of the entire property. During each inspection, the building inspector must approve the work completed, before any further work can continue. If the work is not up to scratch, problems will have to be rectified and another inspection conducted.
