MBV celebrated the skill and resilience of the industry during their annual awards night held in Melbourne. Find out more about the award winners.
Master Builders Victoria has announced the winners of the 2021 MBV Excellence in Housing Awards during an event on 20th January 2022. The awards celebrate the high standard of excellence demonstrated throughout Victoria's residential building sector and are a fantastic opportunity to recognise the depth of talent, dedication and craftmanship in the industry.
2021 was a particularly difficult year for the building and construction industry, following on from the previous year of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns and continuing the theme of uncertainty throughout the year.
Due to restrictions, the awards event was rescheduled from the original date. However, it was able to go ahead in person, at the Palladium in Crown Casino. The event was well attended by a wide range of people from the industry, and MC'd by Comedian Ed Kavalee. Attendees were treated to musical performances from the Tim Campbell Band and Mary Catanchin. The event was hosted in strict adherence to COVIDSafe guidelines.
MBV CEO Rebecca Casson praised the resilience of the industry in her speech.
“2021 was another challenging year for our residential builders dealing with the impacts of COVID-19,” she said. “But once again, the outstanding work of our members continued to be of the highest quality with many outstanding projects created over the year. It is pleasing to see that our industry collectively, and with a great deal of discipline and commitment, managed to stay COVIDSafe and, for the most part, open for business.”
Easton Pty Ltd took out the Master Builder of the Year award, accepted by Jordan and Brodie Easton. The winning Toorak project was a luxury home featuring five bedrooms and ten bathrooms, with generous additions such as a library, gymnasium, home theatre, rooftop terrace, spa, lap pool and dual height art gallery. The judges commended the use of 74 pre-cast panels installed via 130 tonne cranes.
Scott James of Scott James Builder was present to accept the Regional Builder of the Year award for his work on an East Albury project that was praised for its quality and longevity. James collaborated with one of Australia's leading architects on the home, which used are a combination of block, blackbutt and Barestone (cement) sheeting. The two-level building features two bedrooms with en-suites, study, and multiple living spaces, all created with a dedication to sustainability and craftmanship.
Congratulations to Young Builder of the Year Rhyse Mazza, who is the Founder and Managing Director of Construct Melbourne. Mazza is a qualified residential builder who previously obtained qualifications in carpentry.
