Victorian builders have cleaned up at this year’s Housing Industry Association (HIA) Australian Housing Awards, taking out five of the 22 awards up for grabs. The ceremony, held virtually this year as a result of various state lockdowns, recognised the best homes, kitchens, bathrooms and businesses in the residential building industry.
“The workmanship of Award winners is exceptional; demonstrated in projects that push the boundaries in design and innovation,” said HIA Managing Director Graham Wolfe.
“It is my absolute pleasure to congratulate each winner for their hard work and commitment to excellence.”
Sydney-based Malinger construction took out the highest award, winning 2021 HIA–CSR Australian Home of the Year for its cascading Sydney home. The innovative build overcomes a site fall of more than 17 metres, incorporating a plunge pool cut into rock boulders.
From a home restored from a 144-year-old church, to Australia’s most beloved property, here are the five Victorian built projects that secured the glory.
Sheridan Building Services
HIA–CSR Australian People’s Choice Home
Sheridan Building Services secured the vote of the people this year for its elegant, custom built Brighton home. Awarded People’s Choice Home via voting on Houzz Australia’s website, the home was recognised for its integration modern technology, environmental features and ample natural lighting.
Martin Builders
HIA Australian Renovation / Addition Project
Martin Builders took out HIA Australian Renovation / Addition Project for its Church on Napier project. The builder was commended for its innovatively transformation of the 144-year-old bluestone church into a collection of residences.
Described as ‘a contemporary build which highlights intricate heritage features’, Church on Napier wowed judges with its vast open spaces and high vaulted ceilings.
Lattitude 37
HIA Australian Professional Medium Builder / Renovator
Lattitude 37 picked up a company-wide award for its overall customer-centric culture and commitment to building high-quality luxury homes with integrity and transparency. The victory was said to stem from the company’s simple vision: “Happy Clients, Great Homes”.
Lattitude 37’s golden ticket was its rigorous management structures and processes which judges applauded for providing firm reliability throughout the building process.
Carlisle Homes
HIA Australian Professional Major Builder
Commended for its elevation of women in construction and reduction of its environmental footprint, Carlisle Homes took out the 2021 Major Builder Award. Judges praised the company for its dedication to building quality, affordable housing with industry leading customer service.
Earlier this year, Carlisle Homes also won the Victorian State Award for Excellence in Customer Relations in the Australian Achiever Awards 2021.
Glenneagles Homes
2021 HIA Australian Townhouse / Villa Development
A stately French manor-inspired townhouse development secured Glenneagles Homes this year’s townhouse / villa award. Each four bedroom home spans a luxurious five levels with chevron-style oak parquetry flooring, gym, home automation and private access from the street frontage.
The company last year took out the 2020 HIA Victorian Townhouse/Villa Development award.
